Trip Overview

On our 10-day tour through this very special country, we’ll enjoy great vegan food, have ethical wildlife experiences, and explore enriching local perspectives. The tour starts and ends in Cape Town, where we’ll discover its history, culture, and all the amazing people who have made it what it is.

Our adventure then continues into the Kruger region, where our stay at a fully vegan safari lodge allows for deeper engagement with the natural world. Guided game drives, walks, and evenings under the stars offer a chance to witness wildlife in a setting rooted in care for animals, land, and community.

All along the way, we’ll share meals that celebrate South Africa’s plant-based food scene, learn from knowledgeable guides, and engage with stories that shape each place we visit. Experiences range from city walks and scenic landscapes to time spent in wildlife areas where conservation and respect for animals come first. We love South Africa and you will too.

Itinerary

Welcome to Cape Town. Upon arrival, you’ll be met with a private transfer to our guesthouse, where the rest of the day has been reserved for relaxation. After checking in, there’s time to rest, settle into your surroundings, or take a gentle walk nearby. In the evening, we come together for our first group dinner, a chance to enjoy amazing vegan food and get to know your fellow travelers as the journey begins.

On Day two we explore the dramatic landscapes of the Cape Peninsula, beginning with a ride on the Table Mountain cable car, weather permitting, for sweeping views over the city and coastline. From there, we travel through Table Mountain National Park toward the Cape of Good Hope, stopping along the way to visit the African penguins at Boulders Beach. The day is filled with coastal scenery and wildlife encounters before returning to Cape Town for dinner.

Meals Included
Day 1: Dinner
Day 2: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Today is all about uncovering Cape Town’s layered history and lived stories. We take part in the Apartheid to Freedom walking tour, a powerful insight into the city’s journey with struggle, resistance, and growth. Led by knowledgeable local guides, the walk shows us exactly how hope and progress emerged from conflict and oppression in the Mother City. The afternoon is left free to explore at your own pace, whether that means strolling the V&A Waterfront, visiting local shops, or relaxing at a café before gathering again for dinner.

The following day starts with the Eco Eats Cape Town walking tour, where we explore the city through its vibrant vegan food scene while learning more about local culture and sustainability. Later, we visit Robben Island, where Nelson Mandela was imprisoned. Touring the island offers a moving perspective on South Africa’s recent history and the struggle of those who shaped it. We return to Cape Town in the evening after a day you won’t forget in a hurry.

Meals Included
Day 3: Breakfast, lunch and dinner
Day 4: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Next, we leave Cape Town behind and fly to the Kruger region, where the landscape opens into bushveld and wide skies. After landing, we transfer to Unembeza Boutique Lodge and Spa, a peaceful retreat nestled among stunning nature. The afternoon is spent settling in, enjoying our new surroundings, and easing into the rhythms of the wild. Wildlife often moves through the area even before we set out on our first official safari.

Day six is dedicated to a full-day guided safari in Kruger National Park. Accompanied by our expert guides, we venture into one of Africa’s most celebrated wildlife reserves in search of elephants, lions, giraffes, and many other species that call the park home. The day unfolds at an unhurried pace, allowing time for observation, learning, and quiet moments in the bush. Then it’s back to the lodge in the evening for another delicious vegan dinner.

Day 6: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Deeper into the Kruger region we go. Today, we transfer to Sashwa River of Stars, a trailblazing, fully plant-based safari lodge on the Olifants River. This women-led lodge centers conservation, compassion, and community in every aspect of its design. With a full group, we enjoy exclusive use of the property and its peaceful bush setting, where the river flows beside our lodge and elephants can often be spotted taking full advantage of the flowing water.

Over the next two days, we take part in guided game drives at sunrise and sunset, explore the riverbanks on gentle walks, and learn about the local environment from expert guides. Whether we’re tracking spoor in the early morning, enjoying a picnic breakfast in the wild, or settling in for stargazing after dinner, our focus is on being present in the bush and connecting with this remarkable place. Cultural interactions and discovering local conservation efforts add depth to our time here, grounding the safari in both land and community.

Day nine is our final full day at Sashwa River of Stars. With the Olifants River and wildlife nearby, there’s time to take part in more lodge activities or simply slow down and enjoy the setting. Options include another guided game drive, time along the riverbanks, or simply relaxing. We gather in the evening for a final dinner in the bush, bringing our safari experience to a close.

On day ten, we depart the Kruger region and begin our journey back to Cape Town. After breakfast, we transfer to the airport for our flight, returning to the city to make our way home.
