Itinerary

Our journey begins in the heart of Dublin, where centuries of stories are written into cobblestone lanes and Georgian facades. We start inside the hushed halls of Trinity College, standing in awe before the illuminated Book of Kells, a manuscript that has survived over a thousand years of history. Just beyond, the Long Room rises like a cathedral of learning, its barrel-vaulted ceiling arched over endless rows of bound tomes. It feels like stepping into another era, where knowledge itself has a presence.

From there, Dublin spills out before us on a walking tour that takes us through elegant squares, bustling lanes, and the layers of history woven into Christ Church Cathedral and Dublin Castle. We pause in cozy corners to hear tales of Vikings, scholars, and revolutionaries. And by evening, we gather for a relaxed vegan dinner before settling into our stylish hotel, tucked right into the pulse of the city.

The next morning, Dublin gives way to the rolling green of Ireland’s Ancient East. We travel along the Military Road, climbing toward the windswept Wicklow Mountains, where the Sally Gap opens onto sweeping views of wild valleys. At Glendalough Monastery, founded in the 6th century, we wander among stone towers and ruined churches nestled beside two shimmering lakes, the quiet broken only by birdsong and wind through the pines.

By afternoon, we reach Kilkenny, a city where medieval character blends with contemporary charm. The star here is Kilkenny Castle, where vast halls and fine architecture whisper of noble families who once ruled these lands. After exploring, we stroll narrow lanes lined with craft shops, cafes, and traditional pubs, all brimming with life. Our boutique hotel greets us with Georgian grandeur, modern comforts, and a warm Irish welcome. Settling in, we feel the rhythm of our journey begin to take hold, discovery by day, comfort and camaraderie by night.

Meals included:

Day 1: Lunch and dinner

Day 2: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

From Kilkenny, we travel into the lush countryside, where gentle hills lead us to The Donkey Sanctuary. Here, rescued donkeys nuzzle softly against visitors, their gentle eyes and calm demeanor a touching reminder of Ireland’s compassion and care. It’s a beautiful stop, one that stays with us long after we leave the paddocks.

Soon we’re bound for Blarney Castle, its towers rising above gardens and streams. The tradition is irresistible, climbing to the ramparts and leaning back to kiss the legendary Blarney Stone, said to bestow the “gift of gab.” Whether or not it works, the view from the top is a gift enough, rolling green fields stretching endlessly toward the horizon. After exploring the dungeons and strolling the manicured gardens, we continue west to Killarney, where music spills from lively pubs and the streets glow with a welcoming energy. Our overnight stay at the Plaza Hotel gives us a chance to rest in style, with the national park just steps away.

The following morning, Killarney wakes us gently, with time to wander its charming streets or simply savor a coffee in town. Then, guided by local insight, we step into Killarney National Park. Lakes mirror the sky and all trails lead to the stately Muckross House, a 19th-century estate steeped in elegance. Just beyond lies Torc Waterfall, cascading through mossy woodland like something from a fairytale.

In the afternoon, we follow winding roads that hug the coast, each turn revealing new marvels. We pause at Inch Beach, a long, golden strand where Atlantic waves crash and surfers carve across the water. The approach into Dingle feels like entering another world. Colorful houses clustered along the harbor, the peninsula unfurling into sea and sky. Our stay at the Dingle Skellig Hotel offers two nights of comfort with sweeping views of Dingle Bay. That evening, we dive into the town’s spirited atmosphere, quirky pubs, award-winning restaurants. And perhaps even a stop at Foxy John’s, part pub, part hardware store, all charm.

Meals included:

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (both days)

Waking in Dingle, we have the morning to explore at a gentler pace. Its craft shops brim with hand-thrown pottery, woven textiles, and intricate jewelry, each piece carrying the soul of the peninsula. We linger in cafes where the aroma of strong coffee mingles with the sweetness of freshly baked bread, and for those who want to stretch their legs, Eask Tower rewards with panoramic views over the bay and Atlantic.

By afternoon, we’re whisked away on one of Ireland’s most breathtaking coastal drives. Slea Head twists and turns past rugged cliffs and wave-lashed beaches, every bend revealing a vista more dramatic than the last. Ancient stone sites appear against the backdrop of a restless sea, a reminder of the people who have called this edge of Europe home for millennia. As the sun dips, we return to Dingle’s lively streets, soaking in one more night of laughter, music, and warmth.

The next morning, we leave the Kingdom of Kerry behind and ascend Connor Pass, one of Ireland’s highest and most scenic mountain crossings. From its summit, the land rolls away in a patchwork of lakes, fields, and distant ocean. Our route carries us over the River Shannon and into County Clare, where the Wild Atlantic Way unfurls in all its drama.

After a hearty lunch, the highlight awaits, a guided tour of the Cliffs of Moher. Rising sheer from the Atlantic, these towering cliffs are Ireland’s most iconic natural wonder. The wind whips salty air as we stand at vantage points that seem to touch the sky, gazing out over endless ocean. Stories of shipwrecks and legends mingle with the cries of seabirds wheeling below, anchoring us to this unforgettable moment.

That evening, we arrive in Doolin, a village famed for its traditional music and rugged beauty. Our stay at the cozy Doolin Inn places us right in the center of it all, where a caring spirit, tasty meals, and the sounds of fiddles and flutes spilling from local pubs carry us gently into the night.

Meals included:

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (both days)

Our adventure continues with a ferry crossing to Inis Oírr, the smallest of the Aran Islands. Time seems to slow here, where stone walls stretch in endless grids and the Irish language is spoken as part of daily life. We wander through ruins of ancient forts and medieval churches, imagining centuries of island stories carried on Atlantic winds.

By afternoon, we’re back on the mainland and arriving in Galway City. Bursting with energy, Galway feels alive with festivals, street musicians, and bustling cafes. On a guided walking tour, we slip through medieval lanes into vibrant squares, each corner offering a surprise. Evening brings lively entertainment, where we’re swept into the rhythm of Irish dancing and the infectious beat of Celtic music. Our hotel is a stylish retreat right in the center of town.

The next morning, we journey into the wild beauty of Connemara. Our route carries us past Lough Corrib, Ireland’s largest lake, its waters gleaming like a mirror reflecting the sky. Soon we’re standing before Kylemore Abbey, a 19th-century castle framed by the mountains above and the water beside it. Its gardens are a masterpiece, with every path lined by bursts of color. For lunch, we pause in Leenaun, gazing over Ireland’s only fjord, where steep hills rise dramatically from the water.

On the return to Galway, we visit Cong Village, a place forever linked to Hollywood through The Quiet Man. Quaint cottages and stone bridges make it feel like a film set, and indeed, it once was. By evening, we’re back in Galway, reflecting on the sweep of landscapes and stories we’ve encountered. Islands and abbeys, fjords and film lore, each adding another layer to our great Irish tapestry.

Meals included:

Breakfast, lunch, and dinner (both days)

Our final morning dawns with a sense of both gratitude and reluctance. But although our journey west is ending, there’s still more to savor. On the road back to Dublin, we pause in Kilbeggan, where a masterclass in Irish Coffee awaits. Rich, dark brew mingles with smooth whiskey and a crown of vegan cream. And as we learn the secrets behind this iconic drink, we laugh, toast, and tuck away a trick we’ll bring home to impress friends.

Back on the coach, we travel eastward, fields and stone walls slipping past the windows. Our guide shares final tips for those lingering in Dublin, from hidden pubs to museums worth a last visit. For us, it’s a moment to reflect on the thrill of coastal winds at the Cliffs of Moher, the hush of Glendalough’s monastery, the swirl of dancers in Galway, and much more.

By the time we return to Dublin, we’ve collected more than just photographs. We’ve gathered memories stitched together by laughter, discovery, and the warm spirit of Ireland itself. And there the tour concludes.
