Trip Overview

Our tour starts with transportation from Ljubljana airport to our hotel. If you arrive early and your room is not ready you will be able to store your bags. The hotel is in the center of the new town.

On our first full day, we’ll have a walking tour of Ljubljana, and visit its castle. On Day 3 we’ll visit Predjama Castle and Postojna Cave.

Day 4 will be spent exploring the UNESCO designated Skojcan Caves, as well as Piran, lying on the Adriatic Sea. On Day 5, we will transfer to a village near Lake Bohinj, with a stop in Bled.

Day 6 will take us back to Bled to explore its castle, and to Vintgar Gorge. On Day 7 we’ll spend the day around Lake Bohinj.

Our final day will end after breakfast, and you will have a private transfer back to Ljubljana airport.

Itinerary

Upon arrival at Ljubljana airport, you’ll be met with a private transfer to our centrally located hotel, in the new part of town. If you’re hungry, there is a vegan cafe and juice bar a two minute walk away. You’ll be able to stretch your legs by walking 10 minutes to the old part of the city, with its multiple cafes lining the river banks. Our welcome dinner will be at one of Ljubljana’s vegan restaurants.

On Thursday, our first full day, we will have a walking tour of lovely Ljubljana and learn about its famous Triple Bridge and Joze Plecnik, the Slovene architect. Ljubljana is lively, beautiful, and charming. The walking tour will end with a visit to the city’s castle, reached via funicular. After lunch you will have the afternoon free to explore on your own, shop for nice souvenirs, or unwind at a cafe or coffee shop. Dinner tonight will be cooked by a local who has invited us for a meal at her apartment.

Meals Included
Day 1: Dinner
Day 2: Breakfast, lunch and dinner

Day 3 affords us a day trip to Predjama Castle, a Renaissance castle and one of Europe’s most dramatic. Begun in 1202, it was built over 300 years, in the mouth of a cavern halfway up a huge cliff. This impenetrable edifice is stunningly situated, so be ready to climb plenty of stairs to reach it. We’ll then visit Postojna Cave, the most biologically diverse cave in the world. For 140 years, a cave railway has been operating and after hopping aboard, you’ll be taken to see karst corridors, galleries, and halls. We will bring packed lunches with us, and then dinner will be enjoyed at another vegan restaurant back in Ljubljana.

Day 4 will be a long all day trip to the UNESCO World Heritage Site Skojcan Caves, an incredible system of limestone cave, underground passages, waterfalls, and one of the largest known underground chambers. Slovenia has a small coastline on the Adriatic Sea, and on it sits Piran, a beautiful seaside town jutting as a peninsula into the sea. Piran is known for its colorful town square, medieval walls, and Venetian-style bell tower. We’ll wander the old towns mazes of narrow cobblestoned lanes and brightly hued houses. Dinner will be back in Ljubljana.

Meals Included
Day 3: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Day 4: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Departing from the hotel on Day 5, we will make our way toward Bohinjska Bistrica, home to our lovely eco hotel. We’ll stop at Lake Bled, where we will store our bags and enjoy lunch at a vegan restaurant. Then we’ll enjoy a boat cruise on an historic pletna, a handmade wooden boat propelled by a pletnar, or boat rower, who oars standing up. No motorized boats are allowed on this stunningly picturesque lake. The boat will take us to Bled Island, home to an ancient church. Alternatively, you may choose the option of rowing a boat yourself on the lake for an hour. We’ll then retrieve our luggage and take a scenic bus ride to our hotel, where we will be spoiled with a five course vegan dinner.

Day 6 has us returning to Lake Bled, to explore Bled Castle, reached with a moderately difficult climb up a hill and steps and through the surrounding forest. At the top you’ll be rewarded with spectacular views of Lake Bled. After lunch at a restaurant with a lovely view, we’ll visit Vintgar Gorge, in Triglav National Park. Boardwalks are suspended over the river that created the gorge, and it’s a thrilling and beautiful walk. We’ll return to our hotel for another five course vegan dinner.

Meals Included
Day 5: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner
Day 6: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

On Day 7, our last full day, we’ll take a bus from our village to Lake Bohinj, a gorgeous clear glacial lake. We’ll enjoy a guided boat tour to the far side of the lake, and various options for hiking in the vicinity of the lake will be available to you. You may also want to take a fast cable car to the top of Vogel, for a stunning view of the Julian Alps, and more hiking opportunities. The cable car holds 80 people and ascends the mountain in just four minutes! After returning to our hotel, our last dinner together will be another five course vegan feast.

Day 8 will conclude our tour after breakfast. You’ll then be transferred to Ljubljana airport via a shuttle.
