Dickens A Christmas Carol Walk

Vegan Food Tours of Camden and Liverpool

Beatles and British Music Experiences

West End Show

Explore enchanting yuletide England

Prior to the publication of Dickens’ A Christmas Carol, Christmas traditions, such as caroling and gift-giving,  had experienced fluctuating levels of popularity, while some traditions, such as Christmas cards and trees, were newly emerging.  Since that time, interest in Christmas and its various traditions has grown exponentially.  Fast forward to the present and we can all agree that London, in particular, is famous for its embrace of all things Christmas, including its beloved Christmas markets.

This tour commences in London, where we enjoy a walking tour from the viewpoint of Dickens, meander through several Christmas markets, lavish ourselves in a vegan afternoon tea service aboard a Hop On Hop Off bus, take a vegan walking tour of Camden, and experience a bespoke vegan cooking class.   We have set aside time to enjoy a West End show as part of the full London experience.

After several days in London, we travel by train to Liverpool, where we are treated to a custom private vegan tour of the city, with some Beatles sightseeing thrown in for good measure.  Given Liverpool’s well-known contributions to all genres of music, we visit the British Music Experience.  We also take a haunted history tour (at nighttime… spooky!).  And, of course, we visit the city’s largest Christmas market.

In both cities, we have built in free time for our guests to pursue individual interests or simply find a nice cafe for a spot of tea and people-watching.

Trip Overview

Plan to arrive in London by 5pm for our meet and greet at our hotel, followed by a welcome dinner.  Our first full day finds us embarking upon a Dickensian Era walking tour of London, followed by our first Christmas market.  On Day 3 we enjoy the Hop On Hop Off tour bus, with its accompanying afternoon tea service. Fully sated with tea, sandwiches, and sweets, we meander another famous London market.   Day 4 offers us the opportunity to participate in a private cooking lesson focusing on a Ritz-style high tea.  And, of course, we get to enjoy the fruits (and pastries and sandwiches) of our labor.  Day 4 provides an additional treat, as we have set aside time to attend a show.  We don’t know which one yet, but we will be watching for show updates in order to select a good one!  On Day 5, we head to the Camden area of London for a vegan walking tour hosted by Rebel Tours, after which we enjoy Camden’s own holiday market.  On Day 6, we bid farewell to London and travel through the countryside over to the seaport of Liverpool.  Upon our arrival, local vegan tour guide and Beatles expert Andi at Beat Route Tours leads us through her beloved city, showing us her favorite vegan and Beatles-related sites.  On Day 7, we immerse ourselves further into the British Music Experience, followed by an evening Haunted History tour.   On Day 8, we explore one last Christmas market and have free time.  Our adventure ends after breakfast on Day 9.

Itinerary

Day 1 (arrival day) of our multi-day tour of London commences with a meet and greet at our hotel, followed by a welcome dinner.

After enjoying breakfast at our hotel, on Day 2, we immediately get into the holiday spirit with a Dickens era walking tour of London, with emphasis on A Christmas Carol.  After lunch, we head to our first Christmas market. Guests may  linger in the market for the remainder of the afternoon,  prior to our group dinner.

Meals Included
Day 1:  Dinner
Day 2: Breakfast, lunch, and dinner

Day 3, after breakfast, we have time to meander the streets of London, enjoying myriad holiday scenes, prior to embarking upon a Hop On Hop Off bus tour.  On the bus, we partake of a vegan afternoon tea service, replete with savory tea sandwiches, scones, and pastries.  After our tea tour, we head to another Christmas market, affording extra time to explore the area prior to dinner.

Day 4 immerses us in a private cooking class, hosted by Made in Hackney.  We learn the ins and outs of preparing a full, high tea, taught by local experts.  Our afternoon is dedicated to seeing a matinee in London’s famous West End.  As always, our day ends with a group dinner.

Day 3: Breakfast, afternoon tea (on the Hop On Hop Off bus), and dinner
Day 4: Breakfast, high tea (prepared during our cooking class), and dinner

On Day 5, we venture to the Camden area of London for a custom vegan tour hosted by small, women-owned Rebel Tours. (We here at Veg Jaunts really like to support small, women-owned, and vegan businesses!  In case you haven’t noticed!)  After exploring the neighborhood with a vegan focus, we head to the Camden Christmas Market.  Our day caps off with our final group dinner in London.

Day 6 of our trip begins with breakfast, followed by a 2-3 hour journey by train to the port city of Liverpool.  After dropping our bags at the hotel, we catch up with Andi of Beat Route tours, our lovely local vegan guide, for a private vegan-focused tour of the city, with some Beatles-focused sightseeing thrown in for good measure.  We check into our new hotel and settle in, before meeting for our group dinner.

Meals Included
Day 5: Breakfast, lunch (via the vegan food tour), and dinner
Day 6: Breakfast, lunch (via the vegan food tour), and dinner

Day 7 of our trip begins with breakfast, before venturing to the British Music Experience.  This museum has an expansive collection of memorabilia, stage outfits, instruments, images, and footage, encompassing 1945 to the present.  Artists such as David Bowie, Freddie Mercury, Dusty Springfield, Adam Ant, The Spice Girls, and many more are featured.  After lunch, we enjoy free time before an early dinner.  Early, you ask?  Why, yes… because our evening will be spent in a haunted history tour of Liverpool.  Boo…!!

On Day 8, after breakfast, we head to our final Christmas market, Liverpool’s largest.  We have lunch and then have another bit of free time, prior to our final group gathering.  We hope to have been touched by the spirit of the holidays and leave this bewitching country filled with mirth and good cheer.
