Trip Overview

Plan to arrive in Florence by 12pm for a meet and greet, welcome lunch, and walking tour of Florence, allowing us to acclimate to our environs and experience the city’s landmarks. Our first full day involves a trip to the Foreste Casentinesi National Park where we shall hike, practice yoga, take a nature drawing class, and enjoy a picnic. We shall spend Day 3 within Florence, touring famous sites including Santa Maria del Fiore, Brunelleschi’s Dome, and the Galleria dell’Accademia. In the evening, we will learn how to make pasta and gnocchi, which will be our dinner. During dinner, we will enjoy traditional Italian music. Day 4 finds us heading to Pisa where we visit the Piazza dei Miracoli (including the Cathedral, Baptistry, and Leaning Tower). This day also offers us the experience of visiting the Ippoasi Animal Sanctuary, where we will have a picnic lunch and an opportunity to volunteer. On this day, we transfer to Siena. On Day 5, we have an eBike adventure to the Val d’Orcia, traveling through typical Tuscan landscapes with hills, cypress trees, and cultivated fields. Our adventure includes our second yoga class and a visit to natural thermal springs. Staying in Siena on Day 6, we take a guided tour of the city, including the Piazza del Campo and a visit to the Cathedral. We will have the opportunity to capture some of this architectural beauty via our second art class. On Day 7, our adventure takes us to Volterra, an ancient Etruscan City. We shall also visit San Gimignano, a medieval city that once boasted 72 towers. Our dinner will include a private concert of harp, violin, and voice, featuring Renaissance music. Day 8 leads us to Cinque Terre, where we begin the first of our two-day hike along the Blue Trail. We will continue the hike on Day 9, ending our stay in Cinque Terre with a yoga class and beachside relaxation. In the evening, we will enjoy a vegan cheese tasting and our final, farewell dinner. Our adventure ends after breakfast on Day 10.

Itinerary

Day 1 (arrival day) of our multi-day tour of Florence begins with a welcome lunch, followed by an outdoor guided walking tour of Florence, including the Piazza del Duomo, Piazza della Signoria, and Piazza Santa Croce.  We walk outside the walls of Florence, passing by the Ponte Vecchio.  We climb towards San Miniato al Monte and visit the Abbey.  Before heading to dinner, we enjoy the beautiful sunset.

After enjoying breakfast at our hotel, on Day 2, we embark upon a daylong tour of the Foreste Casentinesi National Park, enjoying a picnic lunch, yoga class, and art class.  We enjoy dinner at an agriturismo within the refuge, enjoying the sounds of the nocturnal birds of prey.

Day 3, after breakfast, allows us to view Florence from indoors, as we visit Santa Maria del Fiore, Brunelleschi’s Dome, and the Galleria dell’Accademia.  We have a bit of free-time in the afternoon to pursue our personal interests or peruse the local shops for typical Tuscan products.  In the evening, we re-group for a vegan cooking class that will become our dinner.  Our meal will be accompanied by traditional Italian music.

Day 4 takes us to Pisa, where we visit the Piazza dei Miracoli, the Unesco World Heritage Site that includes the Leaning Tower of Pisa.  In the afternoon, we visit the Ippoasi Animal Sanctuary where we enjoy a picnic lunch and an opportunity to volunteer to benefit the rescued animals.
